Acknowledgement of Country

I would like to start by acknowledging the Worimi people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and create today, and pay my respects to their Elders past and present. I extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today.

I am not an Indigenous Australian, nor can I claim to be.

I am not claiming my art is Indigenous art.

If my work has any reference to or replication of Indigenous Works, it was not my intention, and if I or my work have brought hurt to anyone, I apologize, it was unknowingly done.

As a deeply spiritual person, I am inspired by and am responding to the land around me and this country, just as the Indigenous Peoples of this country have for over 100, 000 years before me. I feel a true and deep connection to this land on which I was born and call home. It is apart of me and is reflected in my choice of medium, colour and theme in my art.

Artist Statement

Each year, as we move into summer, the native Eucalypts shed their bark to make way for new growth. I have used the bark as a, maybe not so subtle, representation of itself, symbolizing the shedding of the last two years of the covid-19 pandemic and making way for new growth as we step forward with hope.

The ripples, that the collection is named for, represent the journey through life and are a historical marker of where we have been. Just as ripples in sand and the course a river takes, we are forever shifting and changing.

The colours, aside of being the natural colour of the bark, are inspired by the colours of Australia. The rust coloured dirt of the outback and the straw colour of the dry grasses of summer, invoking the fond remembrance of the warm embrace and the beauty this land holds in the shimmering heat of summer and of future dreamings.
